Vacancy

Embedded systems developer

You will continue developing the devices EMU has been measuring energy with since 1990 – the M-Center and the TCP/IP interface of the Professional II. The hardware lab is next door, and so is manufacturing.

What it is about

The EMU M-Center is our data logger and protocol gateway: it reads up to 250 M-Bus devices, 64 Modbus RTU and 60 Modbus TCP devices and passes the values on simultaneously through MQTT, BACnet IP, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, (s)FTP and email. You will develop this device further – functionality, protocols, web interface, stability in continuous operation.

—

You will also work on the TCP/IP interface of the EMU Professional II, which runs on an ESP32. The work covers firmware, the network stack, Modbus TCP and MQTT – and making sure that a device that hangs in a control cabinet for ten years still reports reliably at the end of those ten years.

What you bring

  • Experience in embedded development with C or C++
  • Practical work with the ESP32 or comparable microcontrollers
  • An understanding of network stacks and TCP/IP
  • An interest in fieldbuses: M-Bus, Modbus RTU and TCP
  • A willingness to measure on the device instead of only simulating
  • German and English

An advantage

  • MQTT, BACnet IP or OPC UA from your own practice
  • Linux on embedded systems
  • Web interfaces for devices, HTML5 and JavaScript
  • Experience with metering or building automation
  • Knowledge of EMC requirements and standards such as EN 61000-6-2

Why here

Development, PCB assembly, final assembly, testing and support all take place in Switzerland – mostly in the same building. In practice: you write firmware and can pop two doors down to see how the device behaves on the test rig. A revision is a matter of weeks, not quarters.

—

The company has existed since 1989, and the world’s first digital electricity meter came from here in 1990. Devices from our production run in office towers in Riyadh and Dubai and in hydroelectric power stations. What you build stays in service for a long time.

How to apply

A CV and a few sentences on what you last worked on, via our contact form. We are glad to see code you are attached to – a repository says more than a covering letter.
